Dreaming in Third Person

Does anyone else dream in third person? Because I do.

It doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to make me question what exactly my subconscious thinks of me. It’s like I’m an observer in my own brain, watching stories unfold on stage from a front-row seat. Honestly, it feels a little rude. It’s like my mind has decided I don’t have main character energy and should stay in my lane as the narrator.

But here’s the interesting part: most of the writing ideas I’m working on right now have come from those types of dreams. As an insomniac, dreaming is a feat in and of itself! When my brain finally does shut off at night, it apparently keeps right on working: spinning stories, building worlds, and only inviting me as a third-person spectator.

So maybe I’m not the main character in many of my dreams, but at least I come away with some excellent writing material.
